Woman Puts Her Foot Down When Irresponsible Boyfriend Requests Pet Fish And Aquarium

First of all, animals are a commitment. They need constant attention and love and if you're not equipped to fully take on that role, along with multiple responsibilities, then you may want to take a moment and think about what you're getting yourself into. OP's boyfriend is lucky that he has OP around to do that thinking for him.

We're not saying that one shouldn't adopt an animal, we believe having an animal in your life enriches it but it's important to realize everything that comes with a pet. Yes, it's hard work, and it is extremely rewarding if you put the effort into it, but if you don't have the time then perhaps now is not the right time. We have got to say if anyone in this situation is to be considered an a-hole it would be OP's boyfriend. Case closed.

    We all go through phases and find new subjects that excite us. That does not mean we go out and spend a lot of money on an elaborate set up dedicated to our new hobby. And we definitely do not get living beings involved.

    Font - | (26F) have outright banned him doing this for the simple fact i've seen this obsession before from him, it's what led to our pet mini lop rabbit Tootsie, and he doesn't clean out her hutch or litter tray at all and barely plays with her, she was his pet but has honestly ended up becoming mine as I couldn't stand to see her neglected, I know he'll end up doing the same with a fish tank and they'll not be cleaned out properly and that is just downright cruel and I am not open to the idea

    Poor little Tootsie. This guy should not be given the privileges to care for animals ever again. We are just thankful that OP is there to give Tootsie some attention since she is clearly not getting it from OP's boyfriend.

You need water purification systems, you have maintain precise chemical balances, and nothing about it is instant gratification. That tank will have to sit empty 6 months just to get levels right. Its really expensive to set up a tank how you want it, it then has to have the water cycled safely before you even get fish (otherwise they can die from ammonia poisoning).
